Starbank School Favicon Starbank Admissions

Starbank is an outstanding all through school for pupils aged 3-16 which operates across three sites, close to the boundary between Bordesley Green and South Yardley. We have over 2,200 students across our school.  Primary students attend Bierton Road, Hob Moor Road and Starbank Road sites and our secondary students are based at our Hob Moor Road site.

Starbank School Favicon Nursery Admissions

We have 120 Part-Time places at our Nursery at Starbank Road and 52 places at Bierton Road (Mixed between part-time and full-time)

The children are divided into small groups with their own key practitioner.

Children are admitted into the Nursery Class at age 3+, usually for the academic year prior to starting at school in Reception at age 4+.  A list of all those wishing to be considered for a Nursery place is kept with the school secretaries in the main school office. Proof of your child’s date of birth must be shown on registration.

A place in our Nursery does not mean you will be allocated a place in Reception – all parents have to apply for a Reception place following the Local Authority procedure.

Starbank School Favicon Reception Admissions

Reception is the first year of primary school. It comes after Nursery, but before Year 1.

Children in Birmingham can go to school (Reception) in the September after their 4th birthday. Birmingham City Council manage all Reception Admissions.

Birmingham Local Authority is the admission authority and sets their admission arrangements, Please click here for current admissions information from the BCC website.

Please note that primary students offered a place at Starbank School may be educated at any of the three sites. We try our best to keep family groups together.

Starbank School Favicon Secondary Admissions criteria:

For entry to Year 7 in September 2018, children on roll in Year 6 at Starbank School will automatically transfer to Year 7 and therefore are not required to submit the school as a preference. However, parents and carers will be free to submit applications for Year 7 places at other schools.

Birmingham Local Authority is the admission authority and sets their admission arrangements, Please click here for current admissions information from the BCC website.

Starbank School Favicon Oversubscription criteria

For community schools in Birmingham, Birmingham Local Authority is the admission authority and sets their admission arrangements, including their oversubscription criteria. When a community school receives more applications than it has places available, the places will be offered in the following criteria order:

  • Looked After Children (in public care) or previously Looked After Children
  • Siblings
  • Distance (children who live nearest the school)

Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest the school. This is calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between the child’s home address and  the centre of the school site on Hob Moor Road.
