Here is the latest update about the school’s actions relating to COVID-19:

Secondary Update

16th March 2020
Dear parent/carer,

On behalf of Starbank school and the IEB (Interim Executive Board) I want to reassure you that we continue to follow and actively engage with the most up to date advice from Public Health UK, Department of Education and the Foreign Office with regards to the Coronavirus.

My team are working behind the scenes on contingency plans for pupils, especially year 11, in the event of a directed closure, however, in the meantime we will endeavour to keep school open.

We have extensive signage displayed around school and assemblies have explained what pupils must do to be hygienic in their routines when coughing, sneezing and washing hands. Each school trip/visit on the school calendar is being risk assessed to ensure that school acts responsibly.

Primary Update

16th March 2020

Dear parent/carer,

On behalf of our Primary sites we want to reassure you that we continue to follow and actively engage with the most up to date advice from Public Health UK, Department of Education and the Foreign Office with regards to the Coronavirus.

As you are aware, news and information about the outbreak of Coronavirus is being updated and changing all of the time. Last week the government moved from the ‘Contain’ phase to the ‘Delay’ phase in managing the outbreak. Whilst schools remain open, we all need to do what we can to support all efforts to mitigate the impact of this virus. Therefore, we want to update you on our approach to managing school life during these current challenges.

We are starting to make contingency plans for pupils in the event of a directed closure, however, in the meantime we will endeavor to keep school open as directed.

We are ensuring children are handwashing frequently throughout the day. Pupils are aware of how to be hygienic in their routines when coughing, sneezing and washing hands.

If any of our pupils are unwell with a temperature or similar symptoms of Covid-19 we are informing the parents to collect their child and to seek further professional help.

We know there is a lot of worry and anxiety at the moment but, in line with the Government advice, we would discourage families from self-isolating where this is not required. This is the time of year too where there are also lots of seasonal illnesses, so it is important you consider the symptoms carefully when making decisions about the action to take. The Government advice is clear that anyone with a new persistent cough or high temperature should stay at home and self-isolate for seven days. If you are unsure, please read the information below.
