Dear Parent/Carers,
Further to the letter sent on Monday evening, following the Prime Minister’s announcement that schools will remain closed until February half-term, I am writing to update you on the remote learning that went live on Wednesday 6th January. You will have also received a call from the teaching team last week to share the key information.
The team at Hob Moor Road Primary have been working hard in readiness for the possibility of switching to remote learning at any point. We were therefore able to react quickly to ensure we were ready and prepared to deliver high-quality remote learning from Wednesday 6th January to all our pupils from Reception to Year 6. We have also had some pupils accessing their learning from school due to being children of critical workers or deemed as a vulnerable.
These are challenging times for everyone and I ask that you remain patient with us during this time as we support some of our families with any difficulties they experience with accessing remote learning. As always, all staff will be working tremendously hard to ensure that all Hob Moor Road pupils continue their learning whilst isolating at home.
Remote Learning from Home – Years Reception, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
A full remote learning timetable is in place for all pupils and has been delivered by the class teachers from Wednesday 6th January 2021 via Microsoft Teams or Tapestry in Reception. We have designed the timetable to ensure that not all pupils need to be online at the same time to allow for a laptop or tablet to be shared at home as much as possible. (Please see the timetable below for each year group).
Teaching Timetable for pupils learning remotely (from home)
Year R
Reception pupils are following a flexible schedule with pre-recorded lessons using Tapestry as a medium.

PE Lessons
Teachers will set a PE lesson for pupils. We are organising for a recording or live PE lesson to be led during offline learning – more information to follow.
Y4 Music Lessons
Y4 Teachers will share the time/recording of the remote music lesson, which will continue to be taught by the Music Service. The lesson will take place during a morning session when pupils are offline.
After-school and Friday afternoon Intervention Sessions
Teachers and Teaching Assistants will continue to deliver the after-school and Friday afternoon interventions at the normal time in a live lesson via MS Teams to ensure your child does not miss out on these sessions.
Years 3, 4 and 5 will have their Friday afternoon intervention at a set time on Friday morning which will be confirmed by the class teacher and will be a recurring meeting/session each week. This will avoid clashing with their live remote learning on Friday afternoons.
Resources for learning at home
We are currently in the process of organising a pack for your child that can be collected from the school office that will include an exercise book, pencil and white board. We will confirm when this pack is ready for collection.
Some year groups have already received an exercise book from a bubble closure which they can use again during this lockdown, e.g. Y6.
Weekly Welfare Calls
Pupil wellbeing is incredibly important to us so we will be making a weekly phone call to speak with pupils and share any key messages with parents. Please note this call is likely to come up as a withheld number; your child’s class Teaching Assistant will give you a regular day to expect this call so you know the withheld number is likely to be Starbank School.
During the school closure:
- Vulnerable pupils (including pupils with EHCP) and critical keyworker children should attend school during this period – these pupils will access the same remote learning as pupils learning from home.
- Any vulnerable pupils, who choose to access remote learning, will receive regular calls (2-3 times a week, some daily) from members of SLT, FACE Team or Learning Mentor.
- All SEND pupils, who choose to access remote learning, will receive a weekly call from Mrs Perry.
- Every pupil will receive a weekly call from their class Teaching Assistant or Learning
