Family and Community Engagement Team

At Starbank school, we have three Family and Community Engagement Co-ordinators consisting of  Nargis Osman-Ghani, Christine Francis and Fardowsa Isse.

The role of the co-ordinators is to work in partnership with parents/carers, voluntary and statutory agencies to support our families.

The team has been established for seven years and have experience of:

  • Fostering and developing good relations between schools and communities.
  • Promoting social cohesion and fostering relationships within the community; bringing communities together and engaging parents.
  • Building collaborative learning networks at local level.

The main aims of this team are to:

  • Engage and consult with parents; responding to the views and needs of parents/families.
  • Strengthen families and communities.
  • Provide learning opportunities and new experiences for families.
  • Work with parents/carers offering support with issues affecting the family.
  • Support and advice on promoting positive parenting.
  • Provide awareness workshops on topical issues.
  • Provide 1:1 confidential advice surgery.
  • Sign-post parents/carers to services offering specific support.


The team have high energy levels and are innovative in their approach to engagement.  As a result they have received the Good Citizen Award in 2016 and Chief Constable Award in 2017 by the West Midlands Police for Outstanding Community Engagement.
