Year 11 students are fast approaching the end of their studies. Students have been revising and sitting assessments for several weeks, during which time they have demonstrated patience and resilience. When students return after half term, they will enter a new phase of their journey as they begin to focus on the world beyond secondary education. I am delighted to share the details of this with you.
The academy has secured provision for a special project for all Year 11 students to take part in. From Monday June 7 2021 – Friday 18 June 2021. Working in partnership with the National Citizenship Service and Birmingham City Football Club to offer an exciting opportunity for all students in Year 11. The National Citizenship Service is incorporated under Royal Charter and aims to engage and empower young people and build their confidence, so they are better placed to pursue their aspirations. National Citizenship Service programmes are well-regarded by colleges and employers and upon completion of the programme all Starbank Year 11 students will receive a nationally recognised certificate and a letter from the Prime Minister, great evidence for young people to add to their fledgling CVs.
Monday 7 June 2021 – Friday 11 June 2021: Students will take part in problem solving workshops and team building activities intended to develop their creative thinking and communication skills.
Monday 14 June 2021- Friday 18 June 2021: Students will undertake a social enterprise project aimed at providing solutions or raising awareness around issues affecting their community.
The project will run each day starting at 9.30 am and ending at 2.30 pm and students should bring a packed lunch and drink. For those students in entitled to free school meals, lunch will be provided. Due to the nature of the activities involved in the project students should wear their academy PE kit.
Your child will bring home some forms for you to read and complete. These must be completed and signed by a parent/carer and returned to the academy on Monday 24 May 2021. Without these forms, it will not be possible for your child to take part in the project.
I know that all students will find the project engaging, enjoyable and rewarding and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of Starbank School.
