LO: To interview a family member
We are going to create a non-fiction text about a family member’s job.
How can we gather information about this? We need to interview mums and dads or aunts and uncles.
What question starters do we know?
Watch link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKol8wznKXs
Can you create some questions that will help you find out what they do?
Examples:
What do you do?
How did you train for your job?
How long do you work for?
How do you do your job?
Create 5 questions and ask a member of your family to answer them.
Topic:
Science
Compare the two plants.
Which plant is fully grown?
Which plant is dead?
Why has the first plant grown?
Why has the second plant not grown?
Can you find a healthy plant and an unhealthy plant outside? Take a picture of them so that they can stay in the ground.
Maths:
Children build on the language of subtraction, recognising and using the subtraction symbol within 20.
The use of zero is important so children know that when nothing is taken away, the start number remains the same or when the whole group is taken away, there will be nothing left.
They will also use the part-whole model alongside practical equipment to reinforce number bonds within 20.
Mathematical talk/questions
How many objects were there at first?
Then what happened to the objects?
How many objects are there now? If Mo ate nothing, what number would we use to represent this? How do we write this as a calculation?
What does the zero represent in this calculation?
If Mo ate all of the biscuits, what number would we be left with?
How do we write this as a calculation?
What does the zero represent in this calculation?
Using the above method, try these questions:
- There are 24 biscuits on a plate. Hannah eats 8 of them.
- There are 12 doughnuts on a plate. Hussain eats 4 of them.
- There are 34 sweets on a plate. Sophie eats 14 of them.

Task: RE:
LO: To understand dishonesty and the importance of being honest.
What does dishonesty/honesty mean? Begin by explaining that honesty may be more than simply speaking untrue words. We can be dishonest by leading others to think something is true that is not. Sometimes we may make excuses for our behavior. Can you think of a time where you have tried to justify/make excuse for being dishonest? We act as though what we have done or said is not really dishonest, it’s just a little thing. We may say, “Everyone does it”. Does this make it right? Not that ‘everyone doing it’ makes it right.
Tell the story of King Mahendra’s Successor from the Hindu tradition.
Go to the word document.
Discuss the story.
What is the moral of the story? What can we learn from it?
Develop the discussion to address the wider meaning of honesty and dishonesty. Who would you rather have as king? Someone who grew a beautiful plant from a seed not given to them by the king, or the honest man who grew no plant?

LO: To extend sentences using conjunctions.
What are conjunctions?
Which conjunctions do you know?
and, but, so, because
We use conjunctions to extend sentences.
Let’s look at the first two sentences.
Jack went to university. He wanted to become a teacher.
How can we join these two sentences together?
And or because
We are adding detail to our sentences.
Choose one of your answers from your interview questions. How can you expand it using a conjunction?
Examples
because they wanted to become….
and it is a hard job
but they have fun
Try to expand your interview answers to add more detail.

Today you will need to go on a hunt for different plant parts!
Go outside with someone from your family and look for a colourful flower. When you have found one, put it inside a tissue, fold it in half and see the pattern that happens.
Next, find a stem. Again, squash it inside a piece of tissue and then open it out to see the pattern.
Next find some roots. Squash them inside a piece of tissue and then open it to see the pattern.
Next find a leaf. Squash it inside a tissue and see the pattern!
What do you notice? Can you label the parts using the words:
Flower stem leaf root

For the first time, children will be introduced to subtraction where they have to cross ten. This small step focuses on the strategy of partitioning to make ten. Children should represent this using concrete manipulatives or pictorially to begin with. Ten frames and number lines are particularly useful to model the structure of this strategy. Children will move towards using this as a mental strategy.
Using the above method, answer these questions:
- First there were 14 sweets, then 3 were eaten, now there are _____ sweets.
- First there were 18 doughnuts, then 8 were eaten, now there are _____ doughnuts.
- First there were 20 sweets, then 12 were eaten, now there are _____ sweets.
