HOLES – SURVIVAL GUIDE
Some resources on this page have been produced by Twinkl who have kindly let Starbank School use them for the home learning pages during the school closure. If you want to access more resources made by Twinkl please visit www.twinkl.com/offer and use offer code: CVDTWINKLHELPS for free access to their entire resource collection.
We will be writing a survival guide over the next two weeks.
If you have access to HOLES online, it will be linked to Camp Green Lake.
If you do not have internet access, you can link your survival guide to the desert.
Today – get back into the book, Holes and read, read, read!
If you are using the paper pack, use this session as time to read any book.
Explore the different survival guides in the resource pack.
What language and structure features do they have in common?
Choose one to annotate, thinking carefully about the purpose of the features.
In Camp Green lake, there are three particularly dangerous animals. The Yellow spotted lizard is the most deadly.
Read the information about the animals. Which is more dangerous in your opinion – the rattlesnake or the scorpion?
Justify your opinion.
If you are working from the pack, you can still do this. Remember though, the yellow spotted lizard is fictional.
For your survival guide, think of the following headings:
- The Staff
- The Animals
- The Digging
- The living conditions
Make a plan of the key information you will include in your survival guide about these headings.
If you are working from the pack, you may want to think about weather/food etc. For your desert survival guide.
Cohesion in your writing is essential! What is the topic sentence of your paragraph? How are your points linked and supportive of the main idea?
Look at the practise paragraph and think about how cohesion is built throughout it.
Go back to your plan and add a topic sentence of each section of your survival guide.
