Year 10 – Distance Learning Menu – 06-07-20 to 20-07-20
Whilst we are unable to meet together as teachers and students, we are fortunate in that we can use technology to provide a meaningful learning experience to all students.
Your teachers have been working hard to adapt your learning so that it is suitable for you to access independently, through Microsoft Teams and other learning platforms as described.
You will find here a ‘Menu’ of the work that has been set by your teachers for the next two weeks coming ahead. You will see the content you need to cover, the activities to complete to make sure you are understanding, and the assessed piece that you will be required to complete and submit to your teachers via Teams. This will be marked and returned to you.
These ‘Menus’ will be updated fortnightly with fresh work and more content from different subjects, so remember to check this website regularly.
We are aware that an on-line lesson will never replace the experience of working with your peers and with your teachers but, whilst we are unable to do so, distance learning will serve as an important intermediary.
I hope you will all embrace this with the same enthusiasm and desire for success that you would every day in school.

Sociology
Year 9 and Year 10.
As you will all be aware, Sociology has been updated three times per week since we closed school to students back in March. In total there have been 36 separate updates containing enough information, content and practice questions to cover the entire GCSE syllabus – almost!
I suggest that, with Summer approaching, you take time to look back over the work that has been set on the Teams page for your group and to work your way though in order, ensuring that you are reading with the following assessment outcomes in mind:
- AO1 – Knowledge and Understanding (this is ‘the what?’): do you know what the content is? Are you using the key terminology and writing like a Sociologist? Can you read data and extract meaning? (Grades 1-3, 40%)
- AO2 – Application in context (this is the ‘why?’): Can you link names to examples? Can you detail and explain examples for each area? Can you give case studies or major theories to support your points? (Grades 1-3, 40%)
- AO3 – Critical Evaluation (this is the ‘what if/what else?’): can you evaluate ‘to what extent…’ ? Are you able to give strengths and weaknesses to AO1 content? Can you point out what is right about certain approaches – but also what might be challenged or might be flawed? (Grades 7+, 20%)
I have also recently posted overall revision guides to support where you have gaps in your learning. You can find these on your Teams page.
I will be teaching all Sociology groups from September, so I look forward to you arriving to class ready to push yourselves into the highest possible grades: get that AO1 and AO2 sorted!
Mr Walker.
