Attendance

Starbank School Favicon Our Attendance and Punctuality

Attendance and punctuality is very important to us at Starbank School as we recognise the impact this has on your child’s education. Our school target is to achieve 96% and this is discussed with our students when we celebrate attendance and when we want to improve attendance.

If your child is unable to attend school due to sickness, please contact the school office as early as possible. We will contact home by 9.30am if your child has not arrived at school and we have not received notification from parents or carers.  Should attendance or punctuality become a concern, we will invite parents to attend a meeting with our pastoral team in order to offer support. Support may also come from the Local Authority Educational Welfare Officer.

Starbank School Favicon Primary Attendance

On our primary sites, we display our weekly attendance on our ‘Now Showing Perfect Attendance’ boards. Our students enjoy finding out which class has won the weekly attendance trophy.

Attendance is also displayed in the secondary school and is updated weekly so students can see how their year groups are achieving.

We also reward 100% attendance for the half term with a certificate. For the 100% full term attendance we give the students a certificate and their names go into a prize draw for one lucky winner to win a special prize.

School and class attendance is also published in our site newsletters.  We ensure we have conversations with parents and carers when attendance needs improving and monitoring

Starbank School Favicon How you can support attendance and punctuality

We need your support in ensuring students are in school and do not miss their learning time. At Starbank our teaching and learning time starts promptly.

  • Ensure your child attends school every day.
  • If your child is ill please contact the site your child attends to log their absence.
  • Make sure your child arrives at school on time

Primary and Secondary Sites: Our doors open at 8.25am and the school bell rings at 8.40am. If your child arrives after the bell they are registered as late.

Starbank School Favicon THERE REALLY IS NO EXCUSE TO BE LATE

Leave of absence in term time.

Leave of absence during term time is discouraged. You will need to apply in advance for permission for your child to have leave of absence.  The school advises parents about the effect that absence can have on a student’s potential progress and attainment.
