EYFS Information

Welcome to our EYFS page that covers information for our pupils starting their school journey in Nursery (3 to 4 years old) and Reception (4 to 5 years old).  Within this page, we will introduce our EYFS curriculum statement, our environments, our curriculum map for Nursery and Reception and provide information about how we document and assess the pupils learning and development. Also contained within this page is the day-to-day information you will need if your child attends our Nursery or Reception classes.

Our Environment

In the Foundation Stage at Starbank School, our principles are influenced by a range of pedagogies linked with the individual needs of our children. Learning takes place both indoors and outdoors and children move between the two at different times of the day. We believe this independent learning time supports children to extend and consolidate learning which has taken place during focus teaching time. We ensure there are opportunities to develop reading, writing and maths skills in all areas of provision.

Resources are carefully chosen to be open-ended and flexible and, wherever possible, natural and life-like. They are organised and accessible to support independence. Children are taught where to find the resources and allowed to access them as they need them.

Tapestry

All children attending Starbank School have a personal online learning journal on Tapestry which staff use to record observations, photos/videos and comments in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. This enables us to build up a record of each child’s learning and achievements during their time with us.

Parents are given access to their child’s Tapestry learning journal so they can view and comment on the observations made by staff. We also encourage parents to contribute by uploading photos, videos and comments of their learning development and experiences at home.

You can access your child’s Tapestry learning journal by inputting your login details on the link below:

Nursery

  • Nursery open 5 days a week
  • 15/30 hours funded childcare places available
  • EYFS pupils make exceptional progress
  • AM, PM and full-day sessions

We admit children into nursery as soon as there is a place available after their 3rd birthday. This will ensure that children will have at least 3 terms in a nursery setting before admission into reception class. Applications for our Nursery should be made direct to Starbank School, and completed application forms must be returned to the Starbank School as soon as possible after a child’s 2nd birthday.

Our nursery is friendly and caring with an experienced, passionate staff team. We offer a stimulating and quality learning environment, with indoor and outdoor space. We nurture our children to form fantastic friendships and a love for learning.

When the time comes for children to move from nursery to Reception, the transition is carefully planned to ensure all children are familiar with their new class teacher and the Reception environment.

We pride ourselves on fostering a warm and welcoming environment for your child – where they can make friends, have fun and flourish.

At Starbank School, we have Nursery provision for 3-4 year olds at our Starbank Road and Bierton Road sites. Each Nursery is led by a qualified teacher who is supported by a team of teaching assistants who each take responsibility for a key group of children.

Our aim is to support all children to become happy, confident, articulate, inquisitive and independent learners.

We also ensure our children are equipped with the essential reading, writing and maths skills so that they are well-prepared for learning in Key Stage 1.
